New research by PhD student Louisa Mason suggests that the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) has surveyed significantly more stars in the Milky Way for radio signals than previously thought, by using the Besançon Galactic Model to account for fainter, uncatalogued stars. Despite this expanded search, the time spent listening to each star and the frequency range covered remain limited, prompting efforts to broaden the scope of radio frequencies, including the first SETI search with ALMA.
